On 17 August 2012, three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot were jailed after staging an anti-Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral. There was a global outcry and campaigns to release the two women who remain in prison are ongoing. Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East and shadow minister for human rights, John Robb, musician and journalist, plus two members of Pussy Riot, unpick the complexities of the case and important themes it has put on the table, including freedom of speech, equal rights, and the power of the church and state in post-Soviet Russia.

This session as part of Activism Weekend, which was part of Yoko Ono's Meltdown. More information about Meltdown: http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/meltdown
