Over 50 % of Ukrainians Want to Join NATO: Poll finds majority of Ukrainians back NATO membership
Over 50 per cent of Ukrainians back joining the NATO military alliance. That's according to polling from research group IFAK, who found that just 22 per cent oppose joining the 28-member bloc, with a quarter undecided.
The Ukrainian parliament recently voted to scrap the country's neutral status, paving the way for a future NATO membership bid. Support for joining the alliance has increased consistently since Russia annexed Crimea and invaded east Ukraine this year. While over 4 out of 10 Ukrainians believe joining NATO would ensure the country's security, according to an October poll for the Foundation for Democratic Initiatives.
