Exclusive: Funding for science in Ukraine 'scarcely enough to stay alive'
Ukraine is approaching the one-year anniversary of membership in the EU's Horizon 2020 programme.
The scheme allows scientists to win research funding which might otherwise not be available through domestic channels. The programme, says Volodymyr Dubinko, has proved to be of great benefit. But it's not a long-term solution.
What Ukraine needs, he says, is to transofrm its system of research grants. The 'old guard' must be removed and objective criteria, like those used in the EU, must take its place.
