What You Need To Know:

✓ Although the Russian plane did violate Turkeys airspace, each time an airspace is violated, you dont down the plane;

✓ This act of downing, lost Turkeys leverage on Russia because now Russia has cut all relations and took measures against Turkey. And under these circumstances, neither the persons of the Crimean Tatars nor other subject is being discussed between Turkey and Russia.

✓ Prior to the Crimeas annexation by Russia, Yakis says that both Ukraine and Turkey had began negotiations on the restoration of rights of the Crimean Tatar population;

✓ Turkeys own problems dont allow it to go very far in sending troops to Ukraine to fight against the Russians;

Five months have passed since Turkey shot down a Russian aircraft that strayed into its airspace during its operations in Syria. Relations between the two nations have spiraled downward, some warning that Turkeys NATO membership could pull the entire alliance into a war with Russia. But according to Yasar Yakis, former Turkish Foreign Minister, although the Russian plane did violate Turkeys airspace, each time an airspace is violated, you dont down the plane. He believes that Turkey could have played a more positive role with the Russians on the Ukrainian crisis, had it not been for the poor relations caused by the plane incident.

This act of downing, lost Turkeys leverage on Russia because now Russia has cut all relations and took measures against Turkey. And under these circumstances, neither the persons of the Crimean Tatars nor other subject is being discussed between Turkey and Russia.

Prior to the Crimeas annexation by Russia, Yakis says that both Ukraine and Turkey had began negotiations on the restoration of rights of the Crimean Tatar population, either through compensation or land return. Now that the peninsula is occupied, these hopes have collapsed, says Yakis.

With Turkey busy with its own domestic problems, threats of violence and terrorism, Yakis doesnt think that it can go very far in sending troops to Ukraine to fight against the Russians.
